We baptist just aint charismatic period. So, the argument has to be made that a PRIVATE prayer language is not a charismatic doctrine. Well, it isn't.
I don't have a ppl. So, I don't have that gift. It does not mean it does not exist. So, we have to determine from the scriptures if this is a false teaching or not. I pray we as SB's remain open on this issue for one very important reason. We must allow God to be God in our lives and not dictate what He can and can not do. If we do not remain open on this issue then even IF there is nothing true about ppl then we have still told God to keep in the place we have put Him. What if He wants to teach us something new? What if He wants to prepare His Bride for His return? If we do not allow our people to search for truth and explore what God has for them then we disqualify ourselves for a continuing, growing relationship with Him. We disqualify ourselves for service in His Kingdom.
I am not willing to do that. Let us tread lightly in telling God what gifts He does and does not give.Striderhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07347436154893544535noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22575956.post-42586158898035624602007-02-20T01:00:00.000-06:002007-02-20T01:00:00.000-06:00"At the same time, there is a big group of 'rank a..."At the same time, there is a big group of 'rank and file' members of typical Southern Baptist churches who are not completely sure what they think on these issues. As a result, there is an attempt on the part of some to tell them what they should think."

I believe that those who are pushing to narrow the parameters on these issues are counting on the notion that rank-and-file Southern Baptists (including many pastors) don't really have a well thought out, biblically informed position on these issues. They seem to be hoping that pastors will take their cues from what the "official" news outlets and convention leaders say about these issues and then pass the "official" line on to their members. Based on my personal observations and experience, such a strategy could be quite effective---IF the pastors went along with it. However, it looks like greater numbers of pastors than they expected are studying the issues for themselves and drawing their own conclusions based on their study of Scripture. I still believe that most members will go along with what their pastor says, but I think more pastors are going to give them the fruits of their (the pastors') own study rather than any "official" line.Tim Sweatmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12207080258485611356noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22575956.post-59941775091410221862007-02-19T21:49:00.000-06:002007-02-19T21:49:00.000-06:00Just too many "have's" in my first comment, so let...Just too many "have's" in my first comment, so let's try again. :)

David said: "It is precisely for this reason, I believe, that some of those who have been the prime movers behind the new policy on PPL, for whatever motive they may have, have sought to publicly vilify PPL as essentially equivalent to “Charismatic extremes.”

I say: This is what I see happening as well. Good observation.

As for the rest of what you have written, it is what I personally perceived so I definitely agree. Thanks David for putting it in words so eloquently.Debbie Kaufmanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17748664558802779885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-22575956.post-35529892703233502002007-02-19T11:06:00.000-06:002007-02-19T11:06:00.000-06:00A home run.A home run.wadeburleson.orghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09712009938843809657noreply@blogger.com
