Assorted thoughts on missions, culture, and working with God to rebuild the spiritual Zion. "We, your servants, love each stone in the city, and we are sad to see them lying in the dirt." Psalm 102.14 (Contemporary English Version)

Missions ConneXion
I know a lot of you who read my blog also read Wade Burleson's Grace and Truth to You, as well as Marty Duren's SBC Outpost. Both of them have recently mentioned the new Missions ConneXion site, and I wanted to join in as well expressing my support of this initiative on the part of John Stickley and his pastor, former IMB missionary Micah Fries. Their idea is to provide a forum for all those interested in missions, especially those on the field, to share their ideas, testimonies, and prayer requests, as well as voice their concerns about issues that affect them. The site is very well laid out, and looks easy to use. John writes that on the first day they had over 1,500 page views from visitors in at least 20 countries. So, I encourage you to check it out. In the midst of all the controversy, it looks like God is up to some very good things...
David,
ReplyDeleteAs a 10-40 window worker, I am concerned with the registration required for "Missions Connexion" Some of us do not want to give that much information to people we do not know. Any idea how secure it actually is?
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI will be happy to forward your message on, and see what they say. I'll let you know whatever I find out.
Anonymous,
ReplyDeleteI just received the following reply from John at Missions ConneXion. Hope it helps...

David,
This is a sample e-mail sent through the missionsconneXion.com website. You shouldn't be able to see my e-mail address in the e-mail you receive, and I never see your e-mail address while composing this (or anywhere else on the site, at least not without administrator privileges).
Hope this helps to address the security concerns issue!
God bless,
John
John has posted the following update on the Missions ConneXion site...
ReplyDeleteSo the e-mail you received had my reply-to address? The forum software documentation gives the impression that would not be the case.
I guess that this just means that no one can obtain another user's e-mail address by simply browsing the forums, but that they could obtain the address of another user should that user e-mail them. Not a security hole, I guess, but one working of the software package that missionaries concerned about privacy should remember. Sounds like private messages (another forum feature) are a better way to correspond with others to ensure privacy.
Let me restate that for clarity: if you use the forum software to e-mail someone, that person WILL see your reply-to address (the address specified upon registration). No one (except for administrators, of course) can obtain your e-mail address unless you e-mail provide it to them, either via direct contact or by e-mailing them through this site.
Sorry for the confusion!
