I'm On Board

I have now read over and signed the newly released Evangelical Manifesto. I think that it verbalizes very well what a lot of us have been thinking for a long time. I ask you to prayerfully and carefully read what it says, and to think through how to consistently put into practice, in attitudes, words, and actions, the propositions contained therein.

David,

Since you like it too, it must be a good document. I have been thinking this way for about 10 years.

Kevin,

Hopefully, this can lead to some healing, and positive reflection, as we seek to be faithful to the Lord, and speak with a united voice to the world around us about the things that really matter.

I read the document. I would have probably worded a few things differently, even found a couple of things with which I might disagree. Overall, I think it is a document we should be able to agree to within SBC circles.

However, I am a little surprised at the negative reaction among bloggers. One criticized it for not including immersion.

It seems a pretty solid statement of the ground of our cooperation across evangelical circles.

David,
I followed your link to the document and read it. After reading it, I signed as well. Is it perfect? No. Is it Baptist? No. Is it Evangelical? Yes, and that is the point. While I could have wished for an addition here or there, a stronger emphasis somewhere else, any disagreement I have would be what it does not include. For example, with "Evangelical" coming from the word we usually translate "Gospel," I wish the writers were a bit more clear and focused on the Gospel aspect of being evangelical
(i.e. conversion, regeneration). Overall a very good document.
